Telegram founder Pavel Durov has launched a public attack on WhatsApp, calling it a ’cheap copycat’ of his messaging platform. In a post on Telegram’s official channel, Durov announced a contest for creators to produce viral videos exposing WhatsApp’s alleged pattern of replicating Telegram’s features.

Durov claims WhatsApp has engaged in smear campaigns against Telegram while lagging behind in innovation. He listed 30 features Telegram introduced first, calling WhatsApp a platform for users ’trapped in the past.’ The contest aims to highlight Telegram’s industry leadership and WhatsApp’s purported imitation strategy.
